Touch and Go

               Everything touches

               and everything goes

               Everything ebbs

               and everything flows

     People touch

     and people go

     But people love us

     deeply so

               And when two cleave

               to one another

               Nothing else matters

               but their lover

     Then babies come

     and children cry

     And adults live

     and adults die

               And as they go

               We keel and row

               Yet still we rise

               to love them so

     For mem'ries glint

     and gleam and stream

     And flow to weave

     a lover's dream

               In mystic magic

               wonderment

               (Before they came)

               and when they went

     They stole our heartlights

     clean away

     But they touched our lives

     They found the way

               Their laughter came

               and their laughter went

               But their laughter moved us

               heaven-sent

     For everything ebbs

     and everything flows

     But nothing remains

     it touches and goes

               And even when mem'ries

               flash the mind

               People still cry

               because they find

     Some thoughts come

     to stay and grow

     To kiss the soul

     and never go
