Spiritual healer and teacher Stephen O'Brien ******************* Q: How far is our freedom curtailed by the universal law of Karma: Cause and Effect? A: Your freedom is 'controlled' by the law of Karma, and the essence of this truth is found in Jesus's words, 'As a man sows, so shall he reap'. We cannot ever escape the consequences of our thoughts and deeds, for we must personally account for them to the Intelligent Mind of The Creator, which lives within us. The moment we express anger or any similar negative force, the release of this dark energy is immediately and indelibly registered within our soul bodies. Conversely, by drawing upon, and then expressing, the opposite and positive force of Love, our psychic light is considerably brightened. This Natural Law of Compensation and Retribution ensures that we cannot escape the consequences of our thoughts and deeds, for they are all impressed upon the soul. In order to re-establish our peace of mind, firstly we must pay attention to the vast battery of thought that we have disturbed within us, known as the Conscience, and secondly, we must make peace with any other creature we may have harmed in the course of our lives. Karma ceases to operate only when the soul has reached an advanced stage of evolution, a time in its existence when it is capable of expressing only the Pure Love that comes from Creative Intelligence. Souls who have completely broken all the chains of Karma are unlikely to be found on Earth, they are probably existing within some supernal Inner Realm of the Spirit, in a state of spiritual bliss that is far beyond our present understanding. Q: How can I experience freedom in my soul? A: You must undergo a spiritual change, an inner re-birth. You must be born-again to the glorious realisation that the Creator-Force is living within you and that this is the only place where absolute freedom dwells. This fundamental change will take effect fully only when you have released all the mental illusions that you have created; the change will occur the instant when you free yourself from every deceiving I-thought that you have built into the mighty edifice known as your self-image. In losing your self, you may find yourself; in changing your spiritual outlook you will unveil the profound sense of all-pervading Peace and Bliss that dwells within you. When you 'lose' self, you 'find' The Great Spirit. If you can 'Let go, and let God', an unfathomable soul tranquillity and healing mental stillness will spontaneously arise in your consciousness, because you will have curbed the incessant chattering of Conscious Thought. You do not have to run away from 'civilisation' or withdraw into a mountain retreat to blend with the deep serenity of the God-Spirit that resides within you. Q: How can I free myself of my Karma? A: If you know you have 'wronged' another in this life or in previous lives, your debts can be repaid by making amends through service and acts of kindness. You cannot begin to sense true spiritual freedom until you resolve these inner conflicts, one by one. Many opportunities to 'set the record straight' will present themselves to you in this life-time because the invisible law of Karma will compel you to associate with members of your own soul-group, who are living either here on Earth or in the World Beyond. Family circles, old friendships, spiritual, social and religious affinities, past enmities and people with whom we have shared unpleasant experiences - all these forces will attract us in this life-time because we have either been associated with them in a series of past lives, or else we have spent time together in the spirit spheres during our sleep-lives. Man is continuously evolving his spiritual nature, constantly unfolding his conscious awareness by facing and then resolving the multifarious challenges and conflicts of the heart and mind, which he has attracted to himself through the Law of Karma. But the ultimate prize for all this effort is well worth the winning - it is a Peace that Passes all understanding and a freedom of the spirit that is gained through a closer Union with The Creator.
