Q: Are mediums born, or made?

A: Where mediumship is evident, you can be sure that its possessor has earned every jot of that facility through previous hard work and effort made in prior incarnations.

Mediumship functions more favourably through certain physical bodies because of their chemical make-up, which is why the soul of an incarnating medium selects a suitable family group and decides on its destiny and upbringing before the physical body is conceived. Mediums are born with a mission, to play their part in the Divine Scheme of things.

Q: What should the mediums be doing in the world today?

A: They should be providing evidence of survival, but not proof per se. They should offer a priceless service to those who feel spiritually 'lost' or in need of guidance: the lonely, the ignorant, those who mourn; and those who seek knowledge of spiritual realities. Mediums are comforters and educators.

Q: Do mediums require dedication and commitment in order to succeed?

A: Yes; for you cannot be a sensitive only when you perform public service. As an aware soul you are continuously representing God, the Great Spirit, on Earth - and this is an awesome personal responsibility.

Communication with the Spirit World:

I can't bring anybody back and make them communicate. Firstly, they haven't gone anywhere - they're very near in a world that is interpenetrating ours. And secondly, no-one on Earth has any power to force people on the Other Side to do his bidding. The spirit people have free will, like us.

Communication between two worlds, even at its best, is always an experiment; many processes can go wrong. Communication is never easy. Mediumship has to be developed over a period of years, channelled correctly and watched carefully like a growing plant or delicate child. It has to be fed time and patience, and if undertaken then it should be done so in a serious and responsible manner.

Remember that to dabble with anything is unwise, but to master a task is always fruitful.

A breakdown in communications between the Two Worlds is probably the medium's fault - though not always. After all, we're tuning in to higher frequencies of the mind, and that isn't easy. Mediums are rather like human radio-sets; but whereas radio tuning is more or less fixed, the medium's mind is trying to register constantly fluctuating spiritual wavelengths. This registration is carried out by the mind, under the strict discipline of the willpower; and it is not easy to accomplish.

Stephen on the Content of Spirit Messages:

Spirit messages are prepared in the next world before they're transmitted. The spirit people usually know what they want to say before any contact is made.

Messages can only be fully understood by those who are receiving them and those who are transmitting them. What may sound trivial to the witnesses can convey a wealth of meaning to the receiver.

The communicators usually give whatever facts they can transmit in order to be recognised to prove their survival. Sometimes they speak of details about which the recipients may know nothing. People must then research the evidence to discover if the facts are correct.

Often I catch everything that is transmitted by my communicators, but sometimes I might miss small pieces of the message. It isn't always easy for them to make themselves heard in our world. But I've learned to trust and depend upon the voice of the spirit, and flow with the stream of evidence that is reaching me, and not battle upstream by arguing over minor details that may seem important to the recipient, but may mean very little to the communicator.
